# Rules for obtaining Bilan Carbone® compliance

To be considered compliant with the Bilan Carbone® method, a candidate tool must fulfill 2 distinct conditions:

* **Validate all mandatory criteria**
* **Obtain, after reconciliation of the evaluations by ABC and an external auditor, a score equal to or greater than 70/100.**

The optional criteria that are not validated will allow the candidate tool's owner to identify areas for improvement and future development.

***

If a tool were to fail to validate all mandatory criteria while obtaining a score above 60/100, it would be offered a deadline to resolve the blocking issues. This deadline may not exceed 6 months.

***

Finally, if a tool were to fail to validate all mandatory criteria while obtaining a score between 50/100 and 60/100, it will be offered an additional one-month deadline to improve the tool on the essential criteria identified by the auditors and achieve a score above 60/100. With a minimum validated score of 60/100, the candidate tool may access the additional 6-month deadline to resolve all blocking issues, but will be required to pay a fee of €1,000 excl. VAT to cover the improvement validation audit.

After the deadline that may be granted, a verification of the candidate tool's improvement will be carried out to validate the resolution of the blocking issues and the achievement of a sufficient score to validate its compliance with the Bilan Carbone® method. If the candidate tool does not meet the conditions for obtaining Bilan Carbone® compliance by the end of this deadline, compliance will be refused.

{% hint style="info" %}
With the launch of a new version of the Bilan Carbone® compliance framework in December 2025, this approach will be trialled for a period of at least 6 months from the date this version of the framework comes into effect.
{% endhint %}
